new diff going in tonight
So my 2000 A4 coupe will be getting a replacement diff tonight. The road noise had become unbearable and frankly when the mechanic friend of mine drove it he was amazed and scared at the same time b/c it was so loud. One of the bearings had gone very bad and I chose to find a replacement diff. I found one from a forum member Matt Patterson ( iownedu ) and he packaged and shipped it nicely. It is the exact same 3:15 getrag rear differential that my car came with and only has 50,000 miles. I could not turn down the price. The diff and all the fluids are here for the diff and the trans, gonna service it too, royal purple all the way. I am just waiting now for the UPS guy to bring the seals from GMPartsdirect.com. He usually comes around 1pm. So by the time I get out of the clinic the car should have the old diff out and the new one ready to put in. We are going to be following Cajundude's write-up on how to do this. Looks pretty straight forward. Wish me luck and I will update when done. Gonna try to take pics along the way too. Did mine a few weeks ago with a friend. Took about 9 hours start to finish, and we took our time. Not really that big a deal actually. We had no surprises. Just organize yourself before you turn the first bolt.
