I replaced the stock "bose" cd player with a pioneer unit. (i recommend everybody do this) anyhow, I was given a "gm factory wiring" harness with the installation kit. All wires were correct except for the 12v switched power. I had to tap into what the owners manual calls "optional equipment wiring" in the area where the fuse block is. This solution gave me switched power and continuous power (for the clock and radio presets), the annoying thing is that when I turn off the ignition switch, the radio turns off :( . I want to get the functionality that the stock stock system had. Mainly, the radio stays on until I open the door. Finally here is my question.... Does anybody know what COLOR wire is "hot" when the ignition is switched off. My guess is that I need to hook the 12v switched wire from the radio to two separate 12v wires in the car, one for the ignition "on" switch, and the other for ignition "off", but with doors closed.
I had a hell of a time locating a switched 12v off the ignition when putting in my Kenwood. I finally found a switched on the ac and used a relay from the battery for my ignition. I guess I forgot to open and close the door when turning the ignition off and on in checking for the wire.
Unfortunatly, you will not be able to duplicate the "radio stays ON until the door is opened" feature, that worked with the stock radio because of a digital dataword sent over the serial communication bus, from the BCM (Body Control Module). No aftermarket radio is designed to interface with this bus. It also took care of the display dimming function.
what about if i tried to tap into something else, like the power windows or something. they are ignition controlled, and will stay on till the door is opened.
there must be a way to do it.
i got the pioneer deh 4400. I always buy pioneer. Lots of power and sound adjustments. The color scheme doesn't quite match, but it looks okay. I added a 425w mtx blue thunder amp and 2 10" mtx blue thunder subs in thier own sealed boxes. I left the "bose" speakers stock. The aftermarket deck makes them sound great. You lose the woofers in the door, but retain the 3.5 mid range in the door and the 5.25" in the rear. Still want to get power with the ignition switch off... anybody???
I don't see any reason that would not work once you found the right wire. I would use a relay off of a constant 12v and use the window wire to switch the relay to avoid getting funky noises in your speakers when you roll the window up and down.
