03 Z06 Throwing Codes
Hi All,
I am trying to help a friend who just bought an 03 Z yesterday. About 10 miles from home the car popped check engine lights on and began to run rough. All the gauges were fine so he limped it home.
Here is what he got off the DIC when he got the car home.

This morning he started the car up, it runs fine. Then he turns the A/C on and it starts to idle "really rough" according to him. He had the car inspected before he bought it and the car got a clean bill of health. I had him pull the codes before and after his test drive and there were none.
He has literally owned this car for one day ... its his first Vette too. Fortunately for him, its covered by GMPP extended warranty which he hasn't transferred over yet. I told him to get that done today. My guess is that the clutch or compressor on the air conditioner died on the way home ... sound reasonable ?

Some of the codes may be old, reset them and see what comes back. The car is over 5 years old, it has about nine grounding studs some in the engine bay area, take them apart and sand/clean the contact points. Clean the battery connections, take off the MAF and spray it with brake cleaner (do not touch the sensor with your hand).

He cleared all the codes before he made the trip. Those codes happened in an 8 hour period as he was driving at mostly highway speed. When he got into his garage, he turned the car off, turned the key back on and pulled the codes.
He also said that when he tried to drive it today without the air conditioner on, it started and ran fine at first then it began to idle rough and turned off once.

Thanks tramminc, I feel bad for the guy. He bought it from an out of town seller and its his first Vette, he had it inspected by a dealer before buying it and now its undriveable and sitting in his garage. I think he had it for about 10 hours and started having problems. I'm sure he wont be able to get anyone to look at it until Tuesday but lucky for him he did get the warranty transfer done.
