Default splash guards/rock chips/appearance

would like your thoughts on splash guards, i normally do not like the looks of them, especially on cars like ours, but my 99 has 60k, and has numerous rock chips, and the paint is beaten off pretty badly behind each tire. i would like to have those area re-painted, and possible color matched guards installed, but have seen very few vetts with these installed, and am just not sure i want them, do any of you have them and do they work, or am i better off to leave as is, thanks for your thoughts

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, but just for grins I thought I'd post what I installed.

Which ones did you install? They appear shorter in length.

Have you considered plastic (Cleartastic or 3M) protection? I bought the Cleartastic sheets three years ago...nearly invisible and they do a great job of protecting the paint in all the vulnerable areas (mirrors, wheel openings, in front of rear wheels, etc.) They're a bit of a pain to install, and must be removed to wax, but I find them preferable to traditional mud flap type protectors. One reason is that the area in front of the rear wheels wouldn't benefit much from mud flaps.
