Interesting as they're both just detergent/solvent type fuel additives. In my 30+ years of wrenching, I've never heard of a "sulfur" problem in any diagnosis of a vehicle problem. Is it really a sulfur problem, or can the cause be attributed to old gasoline causing the contacts to varnish, or perhaps an Ethanol or water issue?

F.Y.I. - Texaco uses Techron in their gasoline; their prices are typically cheaper than Chevron.

On the C5registry.com site this problem was addressed by one of the members in contact with someone at GM. The problem is a sulphur deposit issue on the fuel gauge sender contacts. It is recommended to try the Techron before going to replace any parts. A couple of years ago also had the problem start. As soon as the first time I noticed the problem occurring, I added a couple of bottles of Techron. The problem went away immediately and fortunately it has never returned.
