One of the forum members said Haltech had a TT on te market. Whn I went to their site, they advertised a Z06 TT. I inquired whether the product was only for the Z06, which to be honest, sounded a bit strange. here was the rep's response:
"It will only be available on the Z06 2002 to begin with. Then we will
test on a 2001 Z06. I doubt that the LS1 engines will handle the
additional hp, but we may have a kit by the end of the year."
I know over the past few weeks Halltec was discussing building a TT. However I thought I read on a post on corvetteforum that Jim Hall had axed this project because of lack of interest.
I know he had it planned to develop and produce a TT kit in 2 months. That sounded a bit unrealistic to me but who knows.
I find it strange that he has a prototype (apparently) for an LS6 but not an LS1. Also not sure what he means by "LS1 Not being able to handle the power." What the hell kind of TT power is he talking about? I mean LPE has a stage II/INCON out for the LS1.
Oh well, at least Nick's R&D is going on at least 9 months now.
Oh, I forgot to mention that Halltech is selling the kit (KIT Only) for $12K in case any of the Z06 Owners are interested.
We want to have compassion for all the tuners who are experimenting at the moment. Getting into TT, SC, 7.0L motors is an expensive and risky business. Are SC's going to sell? Are TT's going to be reliable enough? Will they be able to service what they sell? What happens if a motor grenades? Just one bad apple can blast their whole margin for a long period of time. BPP, DRM, ARE, MTI (all of them), LPE etc etc are also competing, albeit not for exactly the same aftermarket dollar. Do you go for volume and low budget or do you charge an arm and a leg and make more off of fewer installs? Selling kits would seem to me to be even riskier than selling installed setups. I'm just glad I'm NOT in that business and salute the people who are.

There is nothing notable in strength difference between the LS1 and LS6 with respect to their ability to handle forced induction.

I just received an e-mail from him. I mentioned that LPE has a stage II for the LS1. He replied that that his LS1 has a beefed up bottom and he stated that the LS1 factory rods "Are too weak."
well, isn't it rather implied that any weak links (rods, fuel injectors, even clutch if necessary,) will naturally be replaced, and will be part of the kit, to accomodate the extra hp? Maybe they don't want to do this and rather install the kit on a ready-to go motor like the LS6.

Again. When did LS6 start using rods different from the LS1? I dont think sooooo.....
According to his postings on the other forum, HallTech was suppose to go through with the project no matter what (whether for sale or one off). They had taken a poll and he had 43 or 44 people interested in the turbo set-up. He said that it'd be in the 12-13k range and would put out in the 600-650hp range when finished (if I remember right). He also said that he'd test the kit set in the 700-800hp range to make sure that it holds up in the lower hp range. Sounds like a KILLER deal to me, if he can make it work! I'm just repeating what I read over there, so please don't flame me if I'm incorrect.
Jim seems to have turned his life goal into making the Z06 the fastest car on the planet. It does not suprise me that he is building a LS6 only TT kit for now. I am sure he will also offer it for the LS1 but Halltech's focus right now is the LS6.
Jim really puts his heart and soul into his work and I am sure this will be one awesome product.
650+ ponies on a stock bottom end? Irun over800 on my LPE 427 C5R tt but my motor is pretty bulett proof and my previous stage2 5.7 LS-6 held up great. There is no rod variation I know of on the LS-6,If you want to play hard go billett and build a racing bottom bottom end.Good Luck David Smilovic
