Default Tire diameter & active handling

Posted this on the Z06 forum and got plenty of views with no technical advice...

How many of you are running a combo of 265/40-17 front with a 315/30-18 on the rear of your C5Z? What make/model tire is it? Have you had issues with your active handling?

I'm looking to replace my F1SC's with some PS2's, and I've been told to go with the above sized combo. Michelin only shows a 0.02" difference in diameter between front and rear, but I've read that the proper delta between front and rear should be 0.05"+ to avoid AH issues.

Comments please...

I think you mean .2 and .5 Vs .02 and .05. It will not bother the AH but could bother the traction control. I was able to run equal size tires front and rear and not upset the TC but it seems this varies from car to car. A .2 difference may just squeeze by and keep the traction control from activating while you are driving/coasting down the street.

Any particular reason you want to go to the wider tire? It may not benefit you all that much depending on what you are trying to do. If you are using OEM C5Z wheels the rear wheel is a half inch smaller than what is recommended by Michelin for that width tire. That will bow the tire out some.

If you go with 275/40/17s and 305/35/18s they'll fit your wheels better and you can still maintain the .5" delta that TC is supposed to need.
It also makes the care turn in cleaner and reduces the understeer.

Bill, yes...I meant 0.2" and 0.5". Thanks for the feedback. I'm just trying to put a little more rear tire on the car.

I would run that combo no problem if they made PS2's in a 305/35...

I run Nitto NT-01's in sizes 255/40/17 and 315/30/18 and never get any AH warnings, codes or anything driving very hard in the twisties. I always drive with TC off but AH doesnt seem to care about the diameter difference in my sizes nor does the ABS.
I wish Nitto would have made a 315/35/18 though...

Did you mean 275 on the front, or did you actually step down to a 255 from the stock 265 width?

Yes I actually went down to a 255/40-17 on the fronts because a 265 wasnt available and I did not like the taller 275 tire as it was visually unappealing to me compared to the rear sidewall height of the 315/30-18 (very very noticeable visual difference running a 275/40 vs 315/30 in sidewall heights and it looks stupid in my opinion and handling im still hammering backroads just the same as I always did).
