Default Car died tonight.

So i'm accelerating slowly from a left turn at a stoplight and the car hiccups and immediately looses power. I step on the gas a bit and it hiccups again but just flat dies. I tried restarting where it turned over and immediately choked and died again. I did this twice and on the third it will not fire, just crank.

I pulled these codes from the car and cleared them and tried to restart the car, but still just cranking.

The car has 93,000 miles and has a mild cam and underdrive pulley.

I've had the reduced power issue before where messing with the accordian fixed the issue. No message of the sort this time though.

Can anyone help me get an idea of what I might be dealing with before I have it towed?

It sounds like you will have to check the basics.
I would make sure you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail first.

U1255h Serial data line malfunction!!!!!
U1064h
U1016h
U1096h

Those are ALL indicators that your having serial data issues and or power issues with the door modules. My guess is your still are having door wiring harness connector issues. Pull the accordion tubes, pull up the harnesses, seperate the connectors and inspect. Look for bare wires, damaged female pins, corossion, moisture etc...... Until you get that wiring harness and connector issue fixed, your going to continue to have these issues.

I very seldom bust chops. I’m fair and I like to provide assistance. This is always a STEEP learning process. I try to post accurate stuff. I’ve been wrong in the past and appreciate when I’m pointed in the correct direction.

I’m lucky and I’ve been able to lay my hands on a LOT of these issues and get familiar with them. I help a LOT of North Eastern area forum members with their cars. Its FUN! Unless I’ve done that, seen that, looked that up and have the facts,,,,I usually wont provide a comment. Until I can investigate the issue and get facts.

I have a very good C3, C4 & C5 electrical background. My 98 Coupe was an electrical night mare from hell. Damn grounds.
It took a LOT of reading, troubleshooting and research to under stand what was wrong. Once i figured out the issue, it was an excellent car.

When I first purchased my 98 coupe, (late 97) I was C5 stupid.
I had to get a set of service manuals and study them to understand the car. This forum is FULL of very smart C5 people.

Mine did this also and it was a broken valve spring! It would not run! I suggest you don't try and start anymore pull the valve covers and check the springs!
Good Luck!

Spoke to Bill and found out the fuel pump isn't priming when I turn the key. Checked fuel pressure from fuel rail and no fuel is coming out when the valve is pressed in. So Bill suggested the switch rebuild. I decided to tear down the switch and clean it tonight. It's at the house right now. Haven't cleaned it yet.

Now that I think about it, if the pump isn't getting power due to the switch, would that have made the car die while driving? Or is this purely a start up issue?

Also, tried to jump it as I noticed voltage on the DIC reading only 11.5 and thought it wouldn't hurt. Still nothing.

Bill, I checked codes again before I started the tear down and I still have no comm on just LSDM after putting back the gray cap on the bsm.

If a switch is barely making good contact, it is possible that some vibration could have broken that connection. Not probable though. Don't assume you have only one issue here.
Bill is about the best help with these types of problems you will find. (on this planet at least).
Have you tried swapping the fuel pump relay with another or simply bypassing the relay with a jumper?

Checked those yesterday. Fuse is good and swapped relays too. Nada. Tried turning the key on and off several times fast also. No whine from the pump that I can hear.

Bill, thank you for all your help last week. Later that night I asked to borrow a friend's voltmeter and he was to leave it in the mailbox so I could pick it up after work after midnight, but it wasn't there and I didn't want to wake him up. I guess he forgot.

Well, at that point I pretty much gave up. I am no mechanic and instead of waiting another day to get my hands on a voltmeter and wasting both our times trying to figure out something that I probably would not be able to fix myself, I had no choice. I ended up having it towed to Corvettes of Dallas.

They found Friday that the ignition I reconditioned was inoperable by switching it with a new one. After checking out the fuel system, he informed me of the news we didn't want to hear. Fuel pump and sending unit. For my luck, I have the FFS, later 2003, in tank fuel pump. I have been fortunate enough to not have any major repairs since my ownership started a bit over 4 yrs. ago. This will set me back roughly over $1200 and I may now lose my vette as I am in no position to afford this type of repair at the moment.

I can say that through this experience that at least I now know how to get my center console and knee bolster removed to get to anything under there I may need to get to in the future if I am lucky to survive this ordeal.

Thank you all for your help once again.

The sad part about this story is,,,you can replace the PUMP ONLY for a couple hundred bucks. The problem, the dealer considers the entire sending unit the serviceable part.

That sucks.

I keep finding that the 03/04's tanks are not serviceable like the older ones because the pump is inside the tank and not outside like the 02's.

Does this still hold true?
