Default What would CF do? (kablamy!)

I recently put Magnaflows on my C5 FRC. They sounded like pure awesome, for about 24 hours. Then, KABOOM *gravel noise*.

Hello Rod, meet LS1. LS1, Rod. I know you guys have always been close but have never gotten to know each other but... Well you seem to have HIT it off on the right note!!!

In case that makes no sense to you, I sent a rod through my block

So, what would CF do? 6k being the budget! I am already pretty set on what I am going to do, but I am just interested to see what you would do in my current situation.

BTW, the LS1 had 123k miles on her. It had been heavily raced, and heavily modified (h/c/i just about every bolton you could dream up).

I would say an LS2/3 based crate motor.

The LS2 crate I have is a great bang for the buck.

I didn't do it, a shop did. But parts are basically.

Crate motor.
Conversion harnesses.

Sprinkle in cam and springs, SFI dampner, intake/exhaust, and a tune.
Add a z06 rear and doing 11's all day long in Phoenix.

I'll try to make this short...

My aluminium under drive pulley was sitting still, and the engine was running

So we replaced the pulley, and pinned the crank. The car was running EXCELLENT after this, had no problems, and was having a blast. So I was taking a buddy for a ride (never been in a vette, at all), go through first normally, hit second and go WOT. Clutch in at about 6500-6700, and KABOOM!

We're thinking that the crank had shaved just enough metal off into the oil to ***** my engine... I know I know, I didn't change the oil. Honestly, was just enjoying the drive so much (it had been down for a month), that I just forgot... So I don't think the LS1 just went, I think my not changing the oil after pinning, is what cause my problem.

As much as all this sucks, I am fairly certain I will be building a:

402 LS2 stroker (scat/eagle), with CNC'd DART 225 heads, and my mamo ported FAST 90, and ported TB. I'll be using my current headers, which will cut down on my HP a bit, but could possibly raise my torque, who knows. The goal is 525rwhp, with the option to run a low boost turbo setup (less than 10 pounds), and try to make 680-700rwhp.

So i'm sad, I was really enjoying it... Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut it's upgrade time!

Oh, and sorry no pictures right now... car's just sitting right now, we'll take it apart when I figure out what I want to do. That said, anybody want to buy a cam?

If your looking at doing a forged bottom end why not the LS3 and get a little larger bore? That is what I'm doing right now, actually I should be picking up the engine today or tomorrow, having the shop that did my head work install the valve train and heads so that everything is done right. Texas speed has assembled short blocks for a good price, I had not seen any bad reports on their work. It sure looks nice

Can't wait to get it installed and tuned.

Damn I wish I had $6k to blow on a motor right now.
I'd have to say I'd be doing an LS3 as well.

The 416 LS3 is actually an option for me. I'm getting married in November and I was trying to have the car running before then, which would leave me with the 402 (just not enough cash on stand by for a 416), however if I hold off till after the wedding, then I'll be able to splurge on what I actually want.

Cam: http://www.futralmotorsports.com/fms...asp?pf=3&pg=29

FMS F14 - 232"/234" .646"/.612" 112LSA - aggressive profile with a 3000-7000 RPM range, rough idle

Cam is still in the car, and I've no idea when I might be pulling it out. When I do get it out, $250 shipped?

Iron block 370 + turbo's would be a lot of fun, but it's not realistically my goal. Even with a 416 I could add a low boost turbo setup that would make pretty nasty number's... but in the now, it's not going to happen.

Who knows though, every 24 hours my opinion changes

Also MattB, TSP will probably be doing the tuning on whatever engine I go with. However, SDPC will be doing the rest. Both great companies, I just have a more established relationship with SDPC. Can't go wrong with either.

Cool. I have always heard good things about TSP and they seem to be active in the on-line forums as well. Never had a problem with them and do recommend them.

Can't wait to get it done, the heart breaker though is a NASA event this weekend and no Vette to drive Next event hopefully.

IMO at this point in the year, my feeling is to get it done right rather than now. Good luck with whatever way you go

Amen.. The night before a race is when my engine let go... It's good it happen about 100 yards from the shop, but it still sucks -_-.

TSP & SDPC are in the same city as I live, so I've got the best of both worlds within 15 minutes ^_^.

How much did you budget for your 416? I won't be needing a clutch, springs, heads, intake, or push rods, but I am still going to budget $6k, which should be plenty.

I did it the best way and didn't really budget LOL Just hoped the check card worked LOL. I had larger valves put in my heads but the rest of the valve train is fairly new and in great condition and the head builder said it was good to use. So I'm at over $7,500 and closing in on $8k. The head work ran like $900, the short block was like $5,300 to my door. $680 in labor assemble the engine and to re-clearance the pistons for a large cam I bought, $500 for a LG cam, and then GM head gaskets and ARP head bolts. The piston work was my fault as I did not discuss the new cam with TSP before I bought the short block. I bought the cam after I bought the short block, not a wise thing to do. So, I could have been under $7K if I had not changed the cam. Of course this does not include tuning yet.

Ah yeah, I should come in pretty good then if you had head work.
