Default Halltech vs Vortex

Well I have only been here a week and I'm already itching to mod up my 01 automatic vert. I visited Tony's Corvette in Gaithersburg Md. I was wondering what you guys think about the Halltech vs Vortex intake systems. Halltech costs quite a bit more. Is it worth it?

When I purchased my Vortex there were only 2 intakes available, the Vortex and the other unit with the dual filters on it. I tried both and ended up with the Vortex. The Halltech unit is really good and posts more HP than the vortex. Both are good units IMO. It is up to each C5 owner to decide what he/she wants in an airbox.

Bull................ Where'd you get that info, direct from Halltech?

From all they dyno's posted here on the forum over the past 2 years, the Vortex has consistently posted more HP & torque than the Halltech.

I'll respectfully disagree with your comment.

MrVegas, hi,

For sure, the evaluation of the RIGHT air intake section is a very personal distinction/preference but also a straight forward technically oriented one. You might see therefore tons of absoluteley valuable explications from other comrade's decisions. One might therefore ask: what IS then the RIGHT decision....are there any?........Take your time and think twice before purchasing any system.

So, you may consider to enrichen your parts evaluation for your intake section by checking-out MTI's Cold Air/True RamAir Induction system. This system consists of an huge shovel-shaped intake section close down in the front bumper area and a relatively high sitting K&N flat panel highperformance airfilter. Genial part of the system purchase is: you will have a new genuine GM radiator shroud, where everything is already pre-mounted (rectangular lower air intake, GM radiator shroud, upper filter housing, K&N Filter unit, mounting hardware, all ready for installation)

This entire intake-concept meets nicely some aerodynamic's basic requirements due to avoiding any turbulences always common/possible by any round filter type (=> no power-robbing venturi effects). Reason: conceptually more laminar airflow (less disturbed and denser air) towards the throttle body. Those positive and non-ignoreable effects on the intake airstream physically increase by exponential-factor 2 as when driving speed is increasing. By speed increasing, air temp drops further as actual ambient which also leads to more molecular air density => colder air => power is increasing.

I personally am VERY satisfied with MTI's setup, which is from rigid and very well engineered standard. Once installed, it looks pretty OEM and is guarantor for tech satisfaction in the real live driving world.

Installation is really super easy and may represent a very nice weekend project.

Check-out this site => http://www.motorsporttech.com/ls1c5/index.html
=> click Air Intake Systems
=> enjoy you found a further individual alternative which is not being found in everybody's Vette

Hope I was from some help for your searching and evaluation. Good luck Brother for your installation, whatever you go to decide. :cheers: :cheers:

Joe.

From what I have seen ... The HP numbers are close. The Vortex is less expensive but the Halltech looks better.

Hey Indy! Its ok to disagree.... I thought the Halltech consistantly posted a few more HP than the Vortex. When I used to care about this issue I thought the Halltech was ahead by a small margin of HP. If I am wrong I am sorry I posted the wrong information.

Without a doubt this is the "tastes great" or "less filling" debt ... there is really no right answer. Go for the system that you prefer and nobody can say you made a bad choice, both products are great. Personally, I like the looks of the Halltech and so that's my choice. There are just as many that went the way of the Vortex and are equally happy. Good Luck. Of course you know that you can never stop with just one mod ... once you get started you'll be hooked. ;) :cheers: :cool: :cheers:

IndyPace78: Why does everyone always talk dynoes. Dyno,shmyno, have you ever tried driving a dynomometer? IMO, driving it is what tells you that it works. Take it do the strip for some real world testing. On a dyno, there are things that you can do to make the numbers work for you. Once again, IMO, dynoes are for tuning and bragging rights. I have a HallTech carbon fiber T-1 and it kicks butt!!!! Not only that, it looks like it belongs on a $48,000 car. The fit and finish (quality) is first rate and the saying "you get whatt you pay for" definitely fits in this instance. I, by no means am putting down the Vortex system as dollar per dollar, it is probably a better deal, it's just not for me.

Anyone have any pictures of the MTI mounted on a Vette? How easy is it to clean the filter and how easy is it to install the radiator shroud? Will it fit on an 01 Z06?

Halltech Tric looked ok but the sidewinder (t1) is ugly and looks like an after thought that went unfinished... at least to me.

My vote is for the MTI.

If we're talking about bottom breathers only I'm a fan of the MTI kit as well. Like SwissJoe I think that the design is superior because of the filter type and the scoop placement. Now I have a VaraRam on my car and I think it is superior to the bottom breathers but I have no numbers to back up this opinion....yet :D

BTW, I am still confused as to why so many people think the Halltech is so good looking...it's just a pipe going through the shroud whether it's metal or not. I don't think it looks bad but I do prefer a design that incorporates an airbox.

My $.02
