muffler delete...
ok so..i am a noobie... and before i get flamed .. i've been wanting to pull the trigger on a cat-back system and i want it loud.... but cant see paying $500 + for stright pipes(probly b/c iam a jew)... can any one point me in the most inexpensive direction for straight pipes? (company or via muffler shop) with clean set up's.... Pics would be most helpful...thank you

I for one hate the CORVETTE TAX and find it sickening to pay twice as much for an exhaust system that other cars pay. Well,,any way; I wanted to see what LOUD was. So,,,,I disconnected the flange where the mid pipe connects to the over the axel flange and installed longer bolts with 3/4" spacers between the flanges.
It was a whole lot louder but,,,,the sound is very gutteral and crude. It will get attention!!
A good exhaust system will tune out all the unwanted frequencies and leave you with a great sounding system
On the bad side of the test, the interior resonance will be in tolerable. It is to the point of nerve racking. You will find your self shifting around the bad RPM points. It rattled screws loose on some of the interior trim!
If you have an early C5 97-98-99, there may not be any metal shielding on the inboard side of the plactic fuel tanks and the HOT exhaust pulses will exit on to the tank. (It didnt hurt mine but I noticed the problem about 6 months later when there was black carbon exhaust on the plactic tank.
)
So, before you opt for a straight exhaust,, just do that simple test and see if it what you really want.
After 6 months of annoying LOUD, I put it back to stock.
When I sold my 98, I got an 02 ZO6 and shortly after the purchase, I installed Stainless Works headers and 3' CAt back system. OUTSTANDING!
See if you can purchase a USED System from the C5 used parts forum. Thats a good way to save some cash.
