One of the Forum suppliers had a tech tip regarding the use of an electric vacuum pump to remedy the oil in the intake problem as well as maintain a negative crank case pressure all the time, which is a plus. Anyone tried this or has any comments in this regard? TIA
Yes, I've tried the setup. it was a hassle. The pump on occaision would suck up oil....lots of it. It was even sucking from a baffled section in the valve cover. Either way, oil stopped making it into my intake and my heads were really clean when I removed them....but it wasnt worth the risk of the pump sucking out loads of oil into my catch can.
The main tip I can give is to not use silycon hose from the valve cover to the pump...it bleeds oil.
The electric vacuum pump works - there is a different part we are using now, as the pump I believe jmX is using doesn't move enough volume on the LS1 to keep negative pressure at WOT - I have the same part on my LT1 and it works without issue, so I attribute this to a characteristic of the LS1 engine. The new pump is also self-regulated at 10" of vacuum to prevent oil control problems.
Re: the oil issues. It is imperative that a good oil separator be run to keep oil from being sucked up - without this it will be (even through a baffled section).
