From what I've read, the C6 shifter won't fit unless you bye it modified. You can get them on ebay already modified, but I find them to be a bit pricey though! I suppose you can modify them yourself somehow...(C6 larger diameter)

Not so, as far as the shifter and shift box assembly. Its a direct bolt-in. The shifter cover boot can be altered at the neck or a modified boot can be purchased.
The C6 shifter , as stated is a slightly better feel and has approx 10% shorter throw. Gene Culley can supply you or the Parts For Sale section of the C5 /C6 forum has them fairly often.
From left to right are the Hurst shifter mounted to a regular C5 shift box. Next is the C6 shifter mounted to a regular C5 shift box. Last is the C5 shifter arm assembly.
This last picture is of a C6 Z06 shifter assembly (2007 M/Y) Note the two (2) horizonal mounts on the shift box . This Z06 box has solid ( silver color) bushings for a more solid , firm feel. But it does transmit some vibrations as well. The regular C5/C6 shift box (or non Z06) have black rubber bushings.

Sorry guys, I stand corrected!
I read the tittle, and misread what the OP was trying to accomplish. I thought he was attempting to put a C6 **** on a C5 shifter...thats what I was referring to
