Default Tranny shift issues...

Ok I have read through many old posts on the situation so bear with me . I have a 2001 MN6 coupe. The problem is when I go to reverse and sometimes when shifting into first it kicks me out and makes a grinding noise. I can stop it about 90% of the time by pressing the clutch twice before shifting into reverse or firts. It will sometimes still have this problem even if I do the double clutch thing. I have tried to swap the clutch fluid also and it didn't help. Any help appreciated!

I had the same issue on a civic once. I would say it is the trans. My situation got so bad I needed to power shift and eventually blew my clutch into about 12 pieces. :P

Interesting recommendation, I'm sure this will go a long way to help the OP troubleshoot his condition.

If I understand correctly it's like it won't go fully into gear? If so, then check the shifter alignment.

At the top right of this forum is a "search forum" button. Use it to search for shifter alignment or something similar and you'll find lots of info.

Thanks for the replies! I also thought of the alignment but its not like it just wont go into gear. It will slide perfectly smooth into its spot as far as normal but I will not hear the clinklike noise saying its in gear. I then will start moving perfectly but within 3 feet it will kick me out and start grinding.

First thing i would do is bleed the clutch as when you double clutch it goes in gear which sounds like you may have air in the system. This will sometimes not allow for you to engage gears fully and thats why when you double clutch it allows for the slave to extend fully.

If you can get at it i would definately put in a remote clutch bleeder. These things are a must and make life so much easier for future fluid changes.

Well, if the shifter doesn't move the linkage far enough to put the transmisison fully into gear than what do you expect to happen? The shifter can easily be adjusted so that it messes up either the 1,3,5,R or 2,4,6 gears. If it's out just right some of those gears may still work but others begin to act up. It only takes time to check.
