On a properly engineered driveline, the halfshaft axle bars are MEANT to be the weak link. Otherwise, you would break the big, expensive parts first. Halfshafts are relatively cheap and easy to replace.
However, my bet is that you will be fine with stock components.

I have been tryin to break my 97's............500+ 1/4 MILE PASSES, ROAD RACIN, 12k HARD MILES. GM did those right to start with

I run 11.5s on drag radials. The only upgrade I have is a hardened output shaft. I always forget which one they changed out when I had the H/C package done.
