Default clb no longer working

so i had the old service steering column lock code come up about 6 months ago. cleared the code and installed the bypass a week later and everything worked fine for the last 6 months. just got my car inspected and the next day the code came up accept now the steering doesnt actually lock it just shuts the car off when i try to move. why did this come back since i have this bypass. its only 6 months old and if it didnt work to begin with i wonder why for this long it hadnt popped up. idk what to do cuz i know the dealership is only gunna screw me every week cuz they dont know what they are doing and how to actually fix this

You say that the problem started right after you got the car inspected. What kind of inspection? Was it at a GM dealer? Did they by chance, hook up to your PCM and mess around with the programming or perform some type of column lock recall without you knowing? The reason I ask is that it seems quite coincidental that the CLB stops working right after a car inspection.

Please realize that if you now do take it to a GM dealer, they will remove the CLB, blame it for any and all electrical issues that you may have with the car and send you on your merry way. You will then be back to square one.

I am sure that other members will chime in on this issue but from what I have read in multiple forums, CLB's rarely go bad. I have heard that there may be problems with the early C5's (97-99) but yours had been working for 6 months. Very strange.

I would start by checking to see that the CLB is still there and I believe that there is a way to check it for functionality. Also, there is a possibility that it lost the syncronicity with the computer and needs to be reset. I believe that there is a fuse that can be pulled to reset it. I am not sure which one it is though (25?).

well it wasnt a gm dealer, just a local shop. i had wondered the same thing as far as if they plugged anything in for getting emmissions if it screwed with the bypass. but as far as i know its still there. ill have to rip into it here soon. i dont see how i coulda hooked it up wrong and it still worked for 6 months though. when i hooked it up i cleared all codes first and it never threw one code or locked or fuel cut off even once. such a little thing can drive u nuts

That means you have GM recall 2 done to the car prior to CLB install. CLB cannot help that alone. You need to have your PCM programmed to change fuel cutoff at 255mph. Any LSx tuner can do this.

You can confirm the CLB is working by turning off the car and try to lock the steering wheel by turning it.

PM me for any more questions

John,
If you have any questions on my fix (cleaning grounds 201 & 202 and running a ground wire to the negative side of the battery) you can PM or email me.
