Installed a Clutch Master Cylinder...
SEEMS to have fixed the "clutch pedal only comes halfway up" problem I've been having for the last 3 weeks.
Only 2 problems while changing it;
First -the "Quick Disconnect" from the master to the slave-(wtf is up with that P.O.S.?)-I had the proper tool,I invented a tool ,cussed a bunch,wasted an hour,and that thing still wouldn't let go!
So I went on ahead and installed it anyway by just pulling the rollpin on the old unit,and plugging the line back into the new one,installing the rollpin,and hoping for the best. Turns out that to bleed the line,you just have to pump the pedal slowly ,depressing it about an inch,and you can hear the air bubbling out of the cylinder.(most of this happens while you're trying to get the clip back on)
Second-the new master apparently had about a 1/4" shorter pushrod on it (no big deal,I figured),but what that translates to is the cruise control cancel switch doesn't get depressed far enough,so the cruise no worky(I found the answer to this particular problem by doing a search on the forum this morning-I love this place!)
So,now that all is good again,I decided to open up the old slave to see just what might have been givivng me grief for the last few weeks.
I've been doing the clutch fluid change(turkey baster thing) for the last 6 months,at least once a week,reservoir fluid was clear as can be,so I was actually a bit surprised to find that there was about 1/2 ounce of black gunk in the cylinder-looked like mud!
Most of it was at the end,where the line to the slave connects,but a good portion of it was in the area between the primary seal and the secondary seal.
So now I'm thinking I should bleed the clutch the RIGHT way,pulling the exhaust,tunnel plate,etc, and hopefully blow all the "mud" out of the slave cylinder.
Would it have killed GM to install a remote clutch bleeder from the factory?-jeez
I've got a feeling I may be doing a slave cylinder change pretty soon,which is going to cost me a pile,since there are so many "While you've got it that torn apart" items that need to go in at that time...(clutch,couplers,ceramic coated 3/8" tunnel plate,REMOTE BLEEDER,etc...)
Hey,I'm not really surprised,she IS almost 12 years old,and this s**t don't last forever!
