I did a search on this but did not see anything specific to my issue.
The driver side window on my C5 just recently started making a grinding or scraping noise at the "top end" of the window movement. As the window starts down it makes this noise and when it's almost to the top position (as it is going up) it makes the noise.
Good chance it is the drive cable, but the only way to know for sure is to remove the door panel and look to see if there is anything rubbing as the glass nears the top.
You might be able to remove the rubber plugs in the bottom of the door and see what is going on, but if the problem is at the top of the door, it will be difficult to see from the bottom.
I had one window that made a gravel noise and I never did find anything that was rubbing. I replaced the window regulator assembly and the noise went away.
Does the noise change depending on whether the door is open or closed?
Thanks everyone for the information. I will remove the panel and take a look. I already have the passenger side window relay to replace so I might as well remove the driver's side panel as well. It's the pits when you have issues with both windows.
Where's the best place to purcahse the cable?.
Thanks again,
Casselvette

In my experience with electric windows it's not long after the grinding noise starts the cable brakes. After changing 4 in my Chevy truck the past few years I can do it in 45 minutes.
It also pays to by quality replacement regulators (cheap replacements is why I've changed 4) and if you are good you can use the same motor.
