I have the stock radio without the CD Changer in the trunk. Can I add an aftermarket CD to it? If so are there wires running back to the trunk that will work with it, and will the radio control it?
I do not know about an aftermarket changer, but I installed a factory changer in my 2001 convertible by buying the wiring harness that connects to the factory changer. The wiring harness plugs into the fuse box under the passenger floor mat and runs from there along the passenger door sill to the rear compartment to plug into the changer. It was fairly easy to run the harness under the carpet and trim panels. And yes the harness connects to the fuse box, not to the factory radio.
to get the changer to function via the factory head units buttons.... you will need to settle for the factory changer. It is unique (typical Delco Electronics) and aftermarket units will not work properly.
There are other options - that can play through the factory head unit's amplifiers/speakers... but you'd have buy an adapter and mount an additional unit control head up front.

Thanks Mike, That's what I thought. I was hoping for a better solution. Do know where 's the best place to buy a Factory Delco unit?
An Ipod or flash drive is really the only way to go. They hold way more music than a disc changer, Can add or delete music at will, can use it in all your rides, and fits in your pocket.
Most C5's except very early 97's 98's have connections for the required COHR extension cable. The COHR extension cable runs from the passengers foot well to the rear center compartment well. Heres a pic where the COHR cable commects to the head unit:
Ah, hell!! I deleted my CD changer pics! PM me and send me an e-mail address amd I will send you a bunch of pics. The dark BLACK cable is the COHR cable!!

The parts and CD changer are not available new anymore. If you search the C5 parts for sale section you'll eventually find everything you need. That's where I got mine. The install is fairly easy, too. I still like listening to my CD's. The stock radio will operate it with no problems. BTW, the changer was made for GM by Pioneer so extra magazines aren't hard to find. I got mine from Crutchfield. I haven't seen a catalog of theirs in a long time. Does anyone know if they're still in business.

I am going to buy a Ipod also, and will use it with my bike too.

They are still in business but if you are not ordering from them you will not get a catalog. It seems that their sales efforts are home entertainment vs auto stereo systems and speakers. They still sells auto systems but the choice is not like it was. It leads me to wonder how big aftermarket auto stereo systems are unless it is going totally custom and that type work is not the average joe install.
