SO, i lock my only set of keys in my C5 Targa. and i dont want to call AAA. So i stand there for 5 minutes in dis pare. Then i get a coat hangar, and feed it through the window seam and press on the pass. door unlock button first try.
If it is that easy to get into my car, are these C5's easy to steal?
I know they have a coded key, but i am not a thief and wouldn't know if it can be done.
I would feel better if i had a kill switch under the dash of some sort.
I know race cars have the gigantic saftey kill switches with key on the outside of the car by the drivers front window, witch i believe connects to the battery cables and cuts everything.
Does any one know where i could wire a kill switch into that wouldnt effect the alarm so i could still gain entry to my 2000 C5?
Has any one installed a custom kill switch?
Theft rate is low. If the wrong key is used the car will not start and cannot be jump started. Once the wrong key is used a 3.5 minute timer starts and even if you used the correct key you will not be able to start the car until the timer ran out. If you attempt to start the car before the timer runs out it resets itself to the full 3.5 minutes.
There are two ways to steal the car.
First one is to have a key made by a dealer parts department (this has happened).
The second is to tow the car away.
It takes too long for somebody to bypass the Passkey system so they don't try unless the have a key or a rollback.
You don't need a kill switch as the key is just as secure.
GM introduced this key system on the 1986 Corvette and theft rates plummeted.

This makes me feel better. I prob wont go installing a crazy stereo system in it though as it is very easy to gain entry to my vehicle. but then again i dont leave it out much for long.

What is a rollback? ( a tow truck? )
A rollback is a truck with a flat bed that rolls back and down so it makes contact with the ground at an angle. Then the operator uses a winch to pull the car onto it. Once the car is on the bed the bed is raised and the truck can drive off with the car.
Bystanders think the owner called the truck because the car had a problem and never suspect the car is being stolen.

If you have a MN6, you can wire a kill switch into the clutch pedal switch. On a manual you must depress the clutch pedal and close a switch to start car. Wire a switch in series with this and it must be closed to start car.
Installed one in my sons hot rod in about 5 minutes but have not put one in the vet as of yet. The price is right and the idea is simple. I have the feeling that car thieves are pretty good at finding kill switches also.
