Default What brand head gaskets?

What brand head gaskets are the best? I am replacing a blown stock head gasket. I am shopping around and find a whole bunch of different brands out there. My heads are stock and I am using the ARP head bolts. I was thinking I would use the GM gaskets but some of these others don't look too bad.

Same question. What thickness? Have seen a range from .040" to .080".

Not sure what heads you are running but the GM gaskets are very forgiving and inexpensive. If you were seeking more compression or quench then Cometic. If you go with Cometics (0.040") you will need to add some tuning to your list of things you will need. Depends on how far you want to take this.

Go with the GM's if you just want a direct replacement.

GM LS1 5.7L Multi-Layer Steel Cylinder Head Gaskets $49.99

Tanks guys, I thingk I am going with the stockers. My heads are stock and I don't see the need to go exotic right now.

Not sure how many miles are on the car or what the consequences of the blown head gasket was. When the intake gasket let go on my Pontiac 3.1, I got a lot of coolant in the oil. Guess the only reason I am raising this question is that lifters are a bitch to change when required due to the required head removal. If there is any doubt on yours (mileage, coolant got into oil, etc.) they may be worth consideration for swapping while the heads are off.

It's very hard to beat the GM MLS gaskets. I run them on my TT and know many others who run them as well in high hp applications. I would only consider cometics if I needed to change the compressed thickness for some reason (e.g. to raise or lower compression)

Thanks, I have it pretty much under control. She blew the head gasket between number three cyl and the water jacket. No coolant in the oil, and she was burbbling through the coolant tank when running. that head had been off before when I had a shop install my long tubes and messed up a header bolt thread. I think they reused the old head bolts. It ran almost 2 years before the leak. 150K + on the engine, and the bottom end is almost like new! No carbon build up. Just going to replace the gasket and use ARP head bolts. The leak was not that bad. I detected it as low coolant over a very long period of time and the bubbling in the coolant tank when running. Compression is great!
