I need help in troubleshooting this problem. About a week ago, my car would not turn on. I would put the key in the ignition and I would just here click-click-click-click. I thought it may had been the starter, but after trying another battery (borrowed), it turned on. GREAT, right? Well I ended up buying another battery and it worked. Well, after a week of driving it did the same thing, well actually its one click now. What could this be? I was thinking alternator?? Anybody have this same expirience?? Thanks
When you get in your car-before you start it, look the voltage on the dic., make a note of it. You want to see what the voltage is when your car start properly and when it donesnt. i.e.
Starts properlt-12.6
clicks-10.4
if it clicks with the battery having good voltage(11.5+), you may have some resistance in a ground or a positive battery lead.
What does your voltage read with the engine running?
You didn't twist that dimmer switch all the way to the right did you?
No it wasnt on, Thats the first thing I checked. Thanks, I have done that before in the past though. And I'll check the the voltage reads today.

Sounds like a good way to check it, never thought of that and I will be sure to do that today. Thanks, thats pretty helpful.

No, that problem was solved by a suggestion made by one of the other members. I took out the ignition switch cleaned it, and it hasnt ever died again. That problem, the car would die while driving, and it would crank and not turn on. This time, the car just clicks. Like I stated before, as soon as I put the new battery in, it worked fine until this morning. I put the new battery in on Monday morning.
....Could it be the alternator not working properly??

It certainly could. With a fully charged battery, I think you should be reading 14.3-14.5 (don't quote me on that ... someone else confirm plz) with the lights and HVAC fan off and engine running. If you read significantly less than that, it certainly could indicate a problem with your alternator. I would've expected a code though as well as a "Charging System Fault" message on the DIC, but you could very well be running just north of the exact conditions that trip said alarm. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen that.
Yeah, same advice that was given to you 2 months ago....
Calm Down. If you dont have any constructive criticism then go find another thread to bug. I'm looking for peoples honest opinions here to try and fix my car. If your not one of them, then dont post! By the way, Last time was a different situation and I really dont think it fits in this dilema. As stated before, last time it cranked and didnt turn on. I fixed the problem. This time it just clicks. Big difference.

Calm down? Like I typed in caps or something. Some of us offer not just opinions, but also experience. Many members suggested checking the condition and security of your battery cables 2 months ago....and yes, it still applies based on your description of the current problem.
Sorry for the Long wait on my solution to this lil problem I had. It ended up being the starter. I pulled the starter and took it to Auto Zone and sure enough, that was the problem. Again, it was solved last year, just hadnt got a chance to post anything.
On a side note, and the reason that I am rechecking this post is because my boss is haveing the same issues with his corvette and I am just freshening up on the advice you all gave me. He has done the ignition contact cleaning. And we have checked all the cables. His Vette is just giving one click then all the power turns off. We still need to check more cables, but after that, I guees we will take off the starter and see if that is the problem too. LOL I will keep u all posted on this one as well.
It had about 80,000. If its the same case with my boss's car then his will be at 93,000 when it failed on him. If its the case. Not sure on his just yet.
