Car is a 99 FRC, this problem has gotten progressively worse in the time I've owned the car (1 year). I have the passive locks set to off and whenever I'm near the car it locks and unlocks on its own, a lot. If I had to guess I'd say it locks/unlocks itself atleast twice a minute when I'm near it with the key fob. I had the key fob replaced for another reason about 2 months ago and the problem still exists. Any ideas guys? It's really annoying.
Also for the hell of it I tried setting the passive locks to on and the same thing happens.
The passive switch contacts get dirty and don't always actually turn off. Try sliding the switch rapidly back and forth a few times and see if it helps. You can also spray some contact cleaner into it to help. I was thinking that on my 98 you could go into the DIC and turn off the passive feature, but that was years ago. The problem is with the passive switch in the fob. You could also buy a 2000 fob and program it to your car. It will still work, but doesn't have the passive feature.
I just got a new fob about 2 months ago and the passive locks have been broken from day one of the new fob (and before with the old fob too). I was assuming it wasn't a problem with the fob but I could be wrong.
I found on my '99, pocket dust gets into the switch contacts itself and turns the passive function on. Sliding it on and off several times would seem to get it back to normal, for me.
