Default Climate Control Different Part #

Hi all,
I have been visiting the forum for some time and have always found the answers I needed...until today.

I have a 2000 convertible with dual climate control. About 2 years ago I fixed the dim display issue. Last week I lost the panel lights in the controller. I removed the unit, replaced all the bulbs, now the only thing that works is that. The controler is dead. I get a flash of display when I start the car but thats it. I have checked and rechecked but can't find an issue bad solder, poor connections etc.

Here is my problem. I went to order a new unit. The dealer did a vin search and came back with part #10345293 which is correct for the year. When I looked at the back of the original it had part # 16254311 out of a 1999. I have had the car since 2004 and is a low mileage. There is no history of it being changed out. Before I plug in the new unit I am wondering if it will work. If I don't open the box I can still return it.

Any ideas if the dual zone controllers are compatible over the years?

I replaced mine in a 2000 and the new part number was different and it worked fine. I think they changed the design a bit, gave it a new part number but maintained compatibility. The dealer should know for a fact.
