I have a Vortex Ram Air that the previous owner put on. How often should I be cleaning the air filter, and how should it be done? I've sent mail to Breathless Performance, but the messages bounce.
You can't clean them to much. I clean mine with every other oil/filter change on our daily drivers, about 8 to 10,000 miles. It really depends on your location and how you drive it. Is it clogged with dust, leaves, bugs, etc?
Some wait for way to many miles and wonder why their performance isn't what it used to be. I recall one guy who said he hadn't cleaned his in over 30,000 miles. Hell, you probably wouldn't let a paper filter go that long...

Can the B-P filter be cleaned using the K&N filter cleaning stuff and reoiled with the K&N oil??
The Breathless website says that every 12K miles should a good interval for normal driving conditions. Because the filter cone is open to everything that comes into the front of the radiator and A/C condensor, it would probably get dirtier quicker than a similar type of filter that was in a housing that has some sort of tube or other air box to channel the intake air.

You might want to consider going back to a stock paper filter.
I have seen tests that show some aftermarket filters flow better at first, but actually clog quicker than a paper filter, and end up passing more dirt into the engine.
