Nothing special needs to be done to get them off. Jack the car up take off wheels, clean and put them back on. Be sure to torque them to 100 pounds in at least two stages. 80 then 100.

Yes you will will be have to reprogram the tire pressure sensors when you put them back on. those steps are listed the forum Tech Section.

There should be no need to reprogram the tire pressure sensors unless you move a wheel location.

You must first remove the ground strap located on the back side of each wheel, then scroll through options on your D.I.C. to remove tires, STAND BACK!!!!!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist. Nothing special needs to be done.

Also, make sure that you use the correct jacking points and the jack adaptor (or hockey pucks) so that you do not damage your roll pan or undercarraige. Check the archives by searching under "jacking" or "lifting". This forum is a great source of info for "backyard" mechanics. It never hurts to ask. Remember, the only stupid question is the one that you failed to ask that caused you to screw up your car.
I recently put mine up on jack stands to paint the calipers and change the wheels and tires. I used the archives to do it correctly and they were a great help. There are many C5ers out there willing to jump in and help you out even though they can't resist a "little jab" for spelling or grammer errors.
Go for it. I'm glad to see that there are others who clean "behind" the wheels!
My wife thinks I'm crazy!!

OK here's a question. I am expecting my HRE's/Pilot Sports from Nate in the about a month or so......I will put the wheels/tires on myself when they arrive. How do I know I have tighted to 100lbs. per lug? I have never seen a torque wrench for lugs before and if they do make one I bet it's big bucks...for a one time use :( Do you tighten in the "star" pattern?
Torque wrench is a torque wrench, 100 ft. lbs. is still 100 ft. lbs. on a "small" torque wrench.........the socket to fit lug nuts is the only thing you "might" need. The only place I can guarantee you won't see a torque wrench is at a tire shop!

There is also a tool called a torque stik that is essentially a lug socket / extension designed to "twist" at 100 ft. lbs. (It did not work on the XMS wheels as they require a thin wall socket to clear. Star pattern on tightening is correct. Good luck. The Pilot Sports were by far the best mod to the car to date!!! Smooth, quiet & sticky (like a good woman). You will love them.

Hey Buckmaster, you can pick up a good torque wrench at home depot or similary place. I got my Husky there for $59. Works great!

I tighten in a star pattern, but go in intervals of 30, 60, then 100 ft ibs. I also use a 10 ib metal weight from Wal-Mart ($5) to bridge the gap in the rear crossmembers. Just place it on top of the jack.

I did that once...

I did that - once... Then I went out and bought a buck-ninety-nine toilet bowl scrubber with the little blue pasticky scrubby thing, put an old cotton sock on it, and use that to clean the insides of the wheels & wells. Much easier!

You should mark location of wheel to hub (or to lug nut stud), so you can put wheel back on in exact location. Shop manual says to do this.

I'm new to this Tire Pressure Sensor stuff, but if I take the wheels and tires off the car and put my Chrome ZR1 wheels on the Vette from my SS Camaro do I have to do any reconfiguring on the DIC to let the PCM know that I have different wheels on the car? :chevy

If you move the sensors over to the new wheels you will need to "train" them unless you use the sensors in the same locations (LF LR RF RR). They are very easy to reprogram. Just search for a previous post with the procedure. You will need a small magnet to do the task. As I recall you push the DIC button until you get a blank screen and then hold it down for a few seconds. Then you can retrain the key fobs or the tire sensors. The DIC will tell which order to do the wheels. Hold the magnet next ot the valve stem until the horn gives a short beep. Then move on to the next one specified on the DIC. Once you have done all four, they will work properly as soon as you drive a short distance. Good Luck. Or you can take it to your dealer where they will charge you 2 hours labor for "reprogramimg"!!
