Is it better to place the MAF behind the airbridge in front of the throttle body like the '97-01 C5 and C6 MAF placements or is it better to place it right behind the airbox in front of the airbridge like on the '02-04 C5s?? Any performance differences either way???
All C5's had it in the same location from'97 to '04, in front of the air bridge adjacent to the air cleaner. The C6's had it moved back to just in front of the throttle body. There must be some performance benefit because I have a Callaway Honker cold air intake which when installed on a C5 moves the MAF up to just in front of the throttle body and eliminates the separate air bridge, making it an integral unit with the air cleaner intake unit. The Honker was around long before the C6 came out so apparently GM copied Callaway's design. That's why I say that there must be a performance advantage, especially since the Honker is one of the highest rated horsepower producers. It is also OEM quality and very easy to service.
When I installed the Vararam power duct I moved my maf to in front of the TB.No gains on the track at all but around town the light throttle response is better.

Think logically, the further away from the intake, the smoother the air flow, for a better maf reading. While true for all filters, would be especially beneficial for ones like the dual-air cones and v-ram.

It goes the other way too...you want even flow both upstream and downstream of any flow measureing device.
You're not going to get good even flow too close to the throttle plate at low throttle angles. Maybe this is why they went to a honeycomb flow straightener on the C6Z's.
