Default a shifting concern

I have a 2000 vert 6 speed, and the car will only go into 6th gear at 56 mph , any other speed and it will not go . all other gears work fine . I even tried to put the the car in 6th with the engine off, with no luck.
any one ever have this trouble? the car does have 86,xxx on the clock and I don't no if it has had a new clutch, but it does not slip. also I changed to tyranny fluid when this was just starting to happen, and the fluid had a cloudy look, and could see shiny specks in it , I haven't been around in awhile, but I do trust that u won't hold that agance me.

Are you saying, that at 55 or 57 mph, it will not go into 6th gear? ......on 56 mph?

Why would you need to go into 6th below that speed anyway?

Never experienced that but I have an issue with 2nd gear popping out and grinding from time to time. Syncro, fluid change...or who knows what! Best of luck with your fix!

thanks , I don't want to do anything major if I don't have to, but for 3500.00$ I can rebuild tranny and new clutch, presurepalt, flywheel , and still have money for Christmas. but the car will be down for awhile . am I rite about that? 9 hrs labor to r&r the tyranny.

Most of the time its labor that kills everything the part can cost 25$ but the labor can be triple of that.

$3500 is aweful steep... one of our level 4 transmissions is $1895.00 exchange and we charge $350 to R&R the transmission, this will get you an upgraded transmission and no worries for many miles to come, we will also inspect everything in the driveline to make sure that you don't have any other issues.

$2245< $3500 for sure...

What happens when you have it in 6th and reduce the speed below 56 mph? I have never heard of this issue, but maybe something similar as with the reverse lockout?

It just loads up , it is only extremely hard to get it in gear, but once it is in gear I can cruse at highway speed no trouble at all

The speed thing boggles me. If you can't get it into 6th then I would think synchro problem BUT you said you can't even get it into 6th with the car off? Gotta be something broken or bent in there. Shift fork maybe?

Regardless, as mentioned, your best bet is to get a rebuilt tranny. RPM is #1 in my mind. Either R&R it yourself or pay them/someone else to do it. It's not too too much work to R&R a tranny. You could just use my clutch install guide and stop before you disconnect the torque tube from the bellhousing, and just pull the rear diff and tranny at that point.

$350 is a pretty good deal if you're local to them too.

thanks for the advice Dope< I had it happen on a trip the first time, was cruising at 70mph, and put it back to 5th to pass some trucks. when i went back to 6th it grind-ed just a bit and went to neutral, tried again and went rite in. did the same for the rest of the trip.
when i got home i change the fluid, but still got worse ,
is their any mixtures of fluid that help sinks work better?
