Just had my 2003 Coupe to the Dealer for the annual Virginia State Inspection and they advised the power steering reservoir was leeking, the pump is OK. The dealer wanted $290 to do the repair which I thought was high. How difficult is it to replace the Power Steering Reservoir?
1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
2. Remove the capstick (1) from the power steering fluid reservoir (2).
3. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir (2) from the power steering fluid reservoir bracket (5).
4. Remove the following components from the power steering fluid reservoir (2):
1. The power steering reservoir outlet pipe/hose. Refer to Power Steering Reservoir Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement .
2. The power steering return hose. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement .
5. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir (2) from the vehicle.
My dealer replaced mine under GMPP last year. The repair included replacing the reservoir and the power steering cooler. I sold the car about a month ago but from what I can remember the hose connections to the reservoir were crimped on.
You really don't even absolutely have to remove the bolts/bracket. The reservoir just slips into the bracket. Move the hose clamp and pull. The hose is often times what holds things up cause it does not slide off so easily. If that is the case then you can remove the bolts to allow you to twise the hose off. It's really short. Prior to doing anything remove as much fluid as you can with a turkey baster. It will make a bit of a mess when you get the hose off.
