Default Bad BCM connections spell HELL

I wish I had visited Corvette Forum sooner. I had the mis-fortune of getting help from a site called Justanswer and spoke to a G.M. " master mechanic" about my electrical nightmare......just about every code out of whack. He strongly suggested the ignition switch was the culprit and should be changed. After doing this at my local stealership, it was not the problem. They went furthur and found that it was loose connections at the BCM and that was it! After spending 336.00 I guess I have gotten a education (again) on researching multiple opinions before proceding with the "fix" All is again well till next time.

What were your symptoms???

Not to defend JUSTANSWER,, (have on idea who they are) sometimes, what people tell you about the issues isn’t all the symptoms that are there. The ignition switch is starting to become a common problem on the C5 platform. Its easy for people just to jump on that as a source of the problem.

If I suspected your ignition switch was an issue, I would have recommended that you take some readings on the fuses that it supplies to see if it was providing each module the correct voltages. If the voltages were bad, I would have just told you to remove it and clean it. It’s really very simple. I have a complete post on that very topic!

There are so many so called or professed "G.M. " Master Mechanics" out there that don’t have a clue it makes me Ill. (there are some very good ones but, there hard to find )

Ive seem NUMEROUS people get lead down the GM Mechanic money trail and there told that they need to replace stuff that never needed to be changed.
Before I replace a hard part, I prove out the diagnosis thru good ole fashion basic troubleshooting. Get the meter out and take some readings in the circuit. Check to see if the basic inputs, outputs and grounds are good or bad.

I like "csdunaway's" answer! True,,,,VERY TRUE!!

Lets see,,,,,,I have this many mods: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Welcome to the FORUM!

Thanks Bill. I don't like telling new people on this forum how much this forus has cost me, but I have to weigh the wealth of information versus MOD FEVER that I caught here!

Just check my mods in my garage link below my avatar!

One thing I have found when going to the dealer's shop is to tell them what I am experiencing with the car and not to tell them what I think is the solution to the problem. Many times this ends up with the wrong solution to the problem. Mechanics are human and the suggestion you make can color their thinking and result in the wrong repair. Once they make up their mind and recommend a repair then you can tell them about what you have found out through your research. Just remember that it is much harder to diagnose a problem from many miles away through imperfect descriptions provided by the owner than it is when you have the vehicle in front of you with the proper diagnostic equipment attached to it.
