I hate the express down window feature.
Is there any way to revert to the old fashioned method of pushing the button to lower the window to where you want it and pushing it again to raise them?
And, yes, I know about the "push firmly and hold" feature!
I'm not sure I understand your question.
If you push and contine holding the button you can stop the window anywhere you prefer, except maybe an inch or so from the top.
If you wanted that length (1 inch) you'd have to go down a couple of inches and then back up.
Remember how window switches used to work? You hold the button down until it opens to the exact position you want, and then you let up. That's the way I want my window to work. I don't want to have to remember to press and hold.

  Isn't that exactly what you would be doing before, holding the button until you wanted it to stop and let go? The only problem would be if you want to crack the window just a bit, otherwise it operates exactly like power windows have in the past except for the auto-down feature if you want to put the window all the way down. I'm not sure what the concern is.
I'm not sure this is what you mean, but mine also is infuriorating, since even the lightest touch on the "down" switch sends the window all the way down. There is no way to modulate it or stop it part way down, which is what I often wish to do. Maybe my switch is defective, but my other car (BMW) allows me to choose between automatic, all the way down, and partway down to the point I choose.
If this is the way GM designed it, it is backwards in my opinion, since there is only "express down," and no "express up," The latter would be more useful, but is not an option. The former is not wanted, but you have no choice.
I think I know your complaint. Once the express mode takes over, you cannot stop it prematurely... having to let it go completely down.
On my "other" car, once express down is engaged, you can press "down" again to stop it mid flight. I agree that an express up is just as important (or more) as the express down.
I find myself wanting to go down just a couple of inches, but accidentally get into the express mode.

THAT'S IT! Except I can easily live without ANY express mode!
Back to my original question: Is there any way to change/defeat it???
2Yellow, you are correct! The way that the Corvette window button is set up is backwards to good ergonomic function! It should be: push down and hold down the button through a "detent" to have the window go down all the way at once. Or, alternatively, just tap the button for a fraction of an inch down at a time.
Also the button shape and style, is not very good. Try a Toyota window switch and you will see that GM is lagging behind some other car makers. I'll bet we'll see some great new changes on the 2004 vette!
If I'm understanding you guys properly, then these windows vary from car to car. I have a 2000 Convertible built on October 12, 1999. Here's how it operates...
Tap the window down button and express down is activated. While on the way down, a second tap aborts its motion. To "crack" the window just a little, I can tap the down button twice very quickly. The first tap starts motion, the second tap stops it.

Are you guys cars different?
Thanks,

Ok here is my .02 if you accidentally start the auto down feature and then want to stop the window halfway just tap the up button once. Michael I am not sure how my switch functions I'll have to check later don't have the vette out today since it is raining/snowing. I think that if i just slightly tap it it wont go all the way down, I recall feeling it has two down positions one will just move it down the other( a deeper down position on the button) will send it into auto mode. TO answer yello's question I think if you replaced the button you could perhaps defeat the autodown but not sure how cost effective this would be as I am not a mechanic.
