Default Big Clutch Problems??

Bad ju ju. I drove my '01 6-speed yesterday with no issues what so ever. Go out in the garage this AM to go to work. Turn the key to start the car and "pow", a loud snap out of the tunnel area...forward.
Engine runs normally but shifter won't go in to any gear when the car is running. Shifts into all gears normally when engine is not running. No fluid under car.

I would guess this is the throw-out slave gone bad. The chutch pedal goes to the floor but it seems to have more resistance than normal.
Anyone experienced this and know exactly what it is?
Any help appreciated.
Rick

Not an expert by any means, but if the clutch pedal still works(returns on it's own),and there's not a puddle under the car,Seems to me that the slave/throwout bearing assy is still functioning, but ,with the loud pop and all,I'd say your pressure plate took a dump.
Either way,it's a lot of work to fix-just a bit cheaper for the parts if it's the slave.
Jack it up,pull the inspection plate, and take a look-either way, you're not going to like what you see.....
Anything that screws up in that area involves pulling the drivetrain to fix- do-able,but a big job (I just did it on my '98 Coupe)

The pedal does come up but feels different...more effort. No puddle.
I thought it might be the slave since the clutch will not release. If I put it in gear with the engine off, hold down the clutch pedal, and then start the car it will move like it has been started in gear.
I plan to take a look this weekend. I'll let you know the bad news.
How long did it take you to get it all back together?

Tearing it apart was about 6 or 7 hours,2 hours of that was getting it 28 inches in the air with 2 small floorjacks and lots of wood blocks, plus on my 98,the ABS controller is on the *** end behind the diff, and was nothing but in the way.

Installing the slave, remote bleeder, pilot bearing, clutch, and taking the measurements to make sure it was going to work right was about 4 hours(I didn't pull the bellhousing to install the clutch-it's not really necessary)

Putting everything back together was about 7 or 8 hours,of which about 4 hours was getting the damned input shaft to line up with the pilot bearing(the angles have to be perfect, then it practically falls into place)

I'm sure with some help the job would go a lot faster-I did mine alone, and I'm not that fast of a wrench to begin with...
But it works great, and that's all I was really going for.

Good luck if you decide to do it yourself-it's not that hard to do,but even if you're fast it's going to take some time.

Carcass,
You were right. I got the inspection plate off today for a look. The pressure plate is toast. Several fingers are bent. Well, I've got it up in the air anyway. Did you loosen the intake and move it forward a couple of inches? I heard it both ways on this one. What clutch did you go with? I'm thinking stock new Z06 at this point. I do little if any drag racing. Thanks, Rick
