Default Traction Control

Ok, I have a 2001 coupe, 6 speed with all the goodies. I just read a wonderful road report of the ZO6. The report stated they turned off the traction control while leaving the active handling on. I read my owners manaul and it says they are turned off together. Any ideas? Thoughts on how to turn TC off without turning off the active handling?

Just hold the AH button in for 5 seconds and the DIC will
say COMPETION MODE. Trac control off and AH stays on.

Yep, just hold down the AH button for 5-8 seconds and the TC goes off and the AH stays on. I drive my car like this most of the time... I think it is the best for the type of driving Most guys around here like to do. ;)

Traction control is for power induced wheel spin on the rears. Active Handling is for yaw control of the entire car.

Yep, that's Competition Mode and it's a great setting.

Active Handling attempts to keep the car headed in the direction you are steering by activating the brakes at each wheel individualy. It works very well.

Traction Control prevents wheelspin by cutting the throttle when it is detected. It is a very intrusive system and is really only useful in rain, snow or ice.

Check out our TracActive Controller. It will automatically put the car into Competition Mode when you start the engine. It's fully programable and a snap to install.

You can buy direct, or from one of our dealers:

The LAPD (and the CorvetteForum Mall) http://www.thelapd.com

Mid America Designs http://www.madvet.com/

Let me know if you have any questions or would like additional information!

Listen to Mike on this one. He made a great gadget that not only sets the car up for how you want to drive as a convenience item but more importantly, in my opinion, as a safety item that keeps you from forgetting to turn TC off. There was a recent post about how AH saved a guy's car during a quarter, and if you have ever had traction control cut in when you nail the car with fast traffic behind you, you will never drive with TC engaged again. Let me tell you, one experience with how fast a following vehicle can fill your rear view mirror when your car stops accelerating is the last experience of that sort that you will want. It was for me anyhow.

There was a post on here within the last week or so on the operation of this great feature and how it has helped in some scary situations. It was by Ranger and it is a must for anyone wanting to keep their 'Vette in one piece.

This holding down the button doesn't seem to work on my 98. Does a car of my vintage not have this feature?

Does your 98 have AH? I know it came on mid year so it may not ahve it. Also, for 2000 and older cars we have to be at a complete stop, hold for 5 sec, to active it properly, the 2001 and 2002 can do it while on the move, lucky bastards!

Believe RPO JL4 "ABS/TCS Active Handling" went into Corvettes built after 12/15/97.

Also, for year 2000 and earlier C5s believe you have to be at a complete stop before holding down the button.

On a pre-2001 car, you have to be completely stopped (which sucks) and of course your car has to be equipped with Active Handling (above the button it will say Active Handling instead of Traction Control). If you have Active Handling, you have traction control also, but not vice versa.

Damn, mine was built in Nov 97! So I get to get sideways in traffic and hope I don't loop it or hit from behind when pulling out in front of it.....
