Last night while cruising in the parking lot going about 3-5mph, I hear a ping/bing in the clutch/shifter area and the car just shuts off. I coast to a stop. Push the clutch in and restart the car. Clutch still pushed in, I let the car idle for a sec and then try to take off. I depress the clutch and I hear a cluck and the car shuts off. I push the clutch in again and restart the car. I depress the clutch and try to take off and I hear the same cluck and the car shuts off again. So with the car in first gear, I get out and try to push it forward and no bueno. The car will not move forward or backward. I put the car in neutral and it pushes forward and backward so this eliminates the tranny being locked up or a shifter linkage issue. With the motor idling and the clutch pushed in, a row through the gears and reverse is fine, which eliminates an input/output shaft issue. So it’s the issue is narrowed down to the slave cylinder, pilot bearing, torque tube, or clutch assembly. With the clutch in and the motor idling, I rev it a tad a try and take off and the car just dies. It doesn’t jump forward or anything, it just dies. There isn’t any noise coming from the torque tube area and since the car won’t rev, this eliminates it being the torque tube. I believe it could be that my slave went it out. What do you guys think it could be????
Sorry can't help you. Sounds T/T , P/P symptoms. What I don't understand is why the engine shuts down. Looking forward to what you find out. Good luck.
Don't think you're going to find any diagnostic codes that are pertinent to this problem.
One scenario you didn't mention is what happens when you let out the clutch with the tranny in neutral. If the engine dies, then you know the problem is in the clutch, pressure plate, or torque tube. If it doesn't, then you know it's in the tranny. Since you can run through the gears and roll the car back and forth when it's in neutral I'm thinking the tranny is OK.
Problem is not with the slave, because it works in your exercises.
Prop shaft is at the end of the tourqe tube that slides into the splines of the P/P. To really learn more from this forum you should try using it to it's fullness. While your on the tech section, look to the top right corner of the screen. You will see "Search this forum". Click on. Type in what your curious about. Prop shaft. You will then see previos posts in this regards. Good luck.
We pulled the drivetrain and found the problem. My slave cylinder broke in half and the clutch was engaged when the slave cylinder broke. When I put the car in neutral and let my foot off the clutch, the car died b/c, the slave didn't disengage the clutch because it was broken and couldn't disengage it. The car wouldn't move forward because the clutch was engaged. The torque tube was fine. I'm replacing my slave cylinder.
Thank's on the head's up on your car's failure to go forward/reverse. Sounds as though out of all the things that could have been broken, you'll be getting off eazy? Good luck.
