Default Need help on selecting headers...please guide me guys!

Hey guys,

I have ordered a B&B Bullet cat-back for my 2001 C5 "Coupe", Now, after deciding to put a new cam,,,i have to install a new bolt on long tube headers to suck the max of power from the engine with the right tuning.

The questions are:

1.What are the right size of the headers to purchase with the X-Pipe to get the max power of the engine?

2.Although, What is the relationship between the header's size and the expected performance after installing the new headers,, I know that as the exhaust released so freely, as more power i would get,,,but too much size,,,could means poor performance,, so what is the optimum?

3.Any recommendations for a great headers except the B&B ones, for any brand matching with my cat-back and the desired cam which leads to a wild roaring muscle car?

4.Finally, How many more added RWHP i would expect after installing my Cat-back & headers only without the cam with the right tuning? considering that i already got a VARARAM intake and a custom tune for the intake & the timing?

Appreciating your valuable answers and support :o

Unless you have increased the displacement 1 3/4
buy the headers and cross pipe from the same vendor for fit purposes.
You won't go wrong with LG pros, American Racing or KOOKS

I chose AR for fit, finish, performance and sound.

The 1 3/4 are supposedly "better for tq" if you don't plan to add FI in the future and your not planning to get too aggressive with your mods. I went with KOOKS 1 7/8 with plans for a super charger some day. I may have sacrificed a minimal amount of torque, but why would one want to replace the headers when they super charge their car? I have a 232/236/114 cam and stage 2 LS1 heads. My car makes 428rwhp and 408rwtq with the KOOKS Long Tubes and Off Road X-pipe. I recommend going bigger becaus the mod bug comes back with a vengeance.

PS... the price difference between the two sizes is minimal. FYI

Since you have modified the internals of your engine, you'll want to get the larger headers with the 3" X-pipe. Can't go wrong with LG Motorsports Pro Headers. With cats will run you around $1800, if you can shop around this winter, they had a nice sale last winter. As far as the bullets go, I hope you have ear plugs because they are already awfully loud, droany, and annoying, and they will be worse with headers. All header and x-pipe packages should bolt right up to them.

1 7/8 primaries. same low end as 3/4 but more top end hp and room to grow.... i've had both on a stock engine and the 1 7/8 on my 408 now. wish i'd started with the 7/8. 2 grand twice.... ouch. LG or ARH. I am running ARH now and love them. I liked my LG's too....

We do have some nice specials on our LG Super Pro's right now through the month of November!

SpinMonster has had some good comparison's of our headers with his own car, which was using a larger LS2 with a cam and other modifications.

Let me know if I can answer any questions about our own headers. Always more than happy to do so!
