Changed the optispark, plugs, coil, airfilter, wires, and oil 2 weeks ago. The car needed a serious tuneup, I was averaging 18 mpg over a 1 year period of time, since then I am getting about 15.5mpg its not a huge deal but I wanted to know what the possible causes would be.
In my area, MPG goes down in the winter time due to the additives the government mandates be added to gasoline to reduce pollution in (relative) colder weather. You might check your log to compare your MPG at THIS TIME LAST YEAR. I lose 2-3 mpg this time of year. Just a thought.
This may be a stupid question, but did the mileage drop occur shortly after the plugs, coils, wires and filter change? If so, there's a high probability one of those is the culprit.
I'd make sure that all the ignition wires and coil connections are good. There is a chance that you cracked the porcelian on one of the spark plugs when you installed; easy to do. I'd expect something like this if the drop in mileage was immediately after the tune up.
If the mileage decreased over a period of time then you may want to consider the oxygen sensors and the ECT sensor.
