My MN6 over the past several weeks seems more difficult to shift. The change has been slow, but it definitely feels different. The 99 Cpe has about 30k on it. The tranny fluid was drained at the dealer at about 20k as the gasket was leaking. The shifting seems notchy, like there's some resistance especially when going from first to second gear. Other shifts are not as bad, but different. Any thoughts?
Could just be the colder weather...mine's pretty notchy until the gear box warms up. Try changing to a snythetic ATF (yes, I know you said MN6). I'm going to change to Redline or M1 in the spring.
Synqros could be going.
Mine was awful I hated it. I almost sold the car because of it!
But my GMPP covered a new tranny.
Now it's fine.
Just a suggestion,
Tim
I don't know what juice GM puts in the MN6 trannies but my '99 did same after approx 10.000 miles. I changed to Redline D4ATF and had no problems since.
My car has 46.000 miles now and still shifting smoothly. I don't care if the Redline is GM approved or not, the results speak for themselves.
Thanks for the replies. I don't think that it's the weather, as we've had some really great days here in Atlanta (well, except for today). It also doesn't improve with warming up. I am inclined to change to Redline as some have suggested. My only thought is since I have a GMPP warranty would it be best to bring it in for a look prior to changing out fluids? If they simply change out the fluid in the dealer (with GM fluid) would this be considered maintenance and not covered? Not sure of the next best move.

I'd wait, some dealers can be very picky about mods. I put redline in mine and it did shift a little easier, but it didn't last long. And gettingthe dealer to pull the tranny is tuff at least for me it was. Keep your records.

Glad to know my 99 not the only notchy shifter. Reeder Chevy in Knoxville says its "normal" I promised to stop in every time i drive by with the same complaint to get a nice BIG file and my GMPP $$ worth. I still LOVE this car. :chevy :smash: :smash:
Why don't you stop by the shop so we can go for a ride and see what is happening so that way if you need syncros I can get them ordered. Is it hard shifting fast and not a problem when shifting slow? If the problem is more noticable when shifting fast then it's probably a syncro but I also want to make sure it's not a clutch problem. Oh in case you don't know I'm at Tom Jumper Chevy in Sandy Springs.
Thanks very much David. I bought the vehicle from Jumper and know Paul and Mac down in the shop. They have been great in the past. I'll try to get it down there some time this week.
I went through this when I bought mine (97 6 speed, bought her last august). she is out of warranty so I changed her transmission fluid with redline about a month ago and I'm very happy with it.
