I am ordering his yellow/black steering wheel  I would like to do everything in my power to not take it to the dealer. Please someone tell me how to remove the stock wheel and how to get the new one installed without having my airbag deploy :nono:
Also, what is the trick to changing out the auto shift ****? Any help, as always is appreciated. Thank you
Well as far as the wheel I can't help you and as much as you hate the dealer I'd have them do it. At least then if they pop the airbag it's their responsibility and not yours.
Now the A4 **** is easy. There is a tiny "staple" in the front of the ****. Put the car in "1" and you'll be able to see it. Pull the pin out and pull up on the ****. New one installs the same way but reverse.
I will email you the instructions tomorrow when I get to the office.
BUT as I said in the other post, I highly recommend that you take it to a knowledgeable mechanic. Besides your safety, I'm told that airbags are $1500 to $1800 buckaroonies.
While I haven't done this mod, I wouldn't take any chances either. Besides the high price of the air bag, the last thing you want is it going off real close to your face.
I also think most have reported here that it's less than an hour's work. So, maybe if you sweet talk the dealer they'll even let you watch (i.e., GUARD) the process? Good luck, and let's see some pics when it's in! :D:D
That is just great :mad I don't know if you know the dealers in my area, but  Oh well, you play you pay. I cannot wait to post another thread titled............WTF Look at my first scratch through my clearcoat and the gash in my interior :(............

:yesnod: :yesnod:
I had mine done at Corvette's of Houston. If you have a place like that near you, go there, but I wouldn't try it yourself, not worth the risk.
1) Pull airbag fuse, then WAIT 1/2 hour. (That allows a capacitor in the system to discharge. The capacitor would pop the bags
in the event the battery gets disconnected in a wreck)
2) Remove lower knee panel on driver side
3) Unplug the two yellow airbag connectors
4) Using a mirror, undo the TORX screws behind the wheel spokes
5) With a spark plug wrench, remove the large nut holding the wheel
6) You MAY/ May not need a wheel puller to actually get the wheel off.
