I have a 2000 Vette after i shut the headlights off I can still hear the motor on the passenger side turnning, it does shut off about 20 seconds after the head light are down. Is there a sensor to tell the motors to stop? Any thought would help

The gear is stripping. Its very common. Go to the ultimate DIY thread at the top. There a couple threads showing this prob. You can get repair kits for around $50 I bought a kit. I did a quick fix by taking the linkage loose & turning the gear 180 deg. with the manual **** & reattaching linkage. You can see pics in the DIY threads. You can do it from top if you have small enough hands. I did it from bottom by removing the panel in front of wheel & bending brake cooling duct out of the way . Took about 30 min. total & I have the repair kit if I need it later. Hope this helps you.
And you won't have the problem again. This is a very common issue with C5's. Don't take it to the dealer as they will not repair the motor, but will replace it for $$$. There are a lot of threads on this issue, use the search function to find some of them. Do a search for headlight gear and you should see a bunch.
You may not need a gear. The black rubber piece (acts like a clutch)next to the gear usually goes first. I've replaced both sides without replacing the gears.
You can get just the black rubber from the guys that sell the gears - last time paid $5 plus shipping. You can also get the gears (brass or plastic) with the black rubber from Rodney Dickman or EBay.
The problem is you won't know if you need the gear or just the rubber until you take it apart.
Good luck
