I'm getting some incorrect readings of the outside temp. My a/c is affected inside the car by not blowing cold enough, I'm in Fla. It read 57 on a 84 degree day.
It blows cold when I really crank it down inside the car, any ideas?
Thanks
Prob your ambient temp sensor. Its located in front of the car on the pass side by the radiator. Changed mine a few years ago with the same problem. Dont remember $$, but cheap, less than $20. Someone else here may have a better suggestion as to solution.
GM Part # 10248414 is aprox. $10 from the dealer and just plugs in.
The sensor is located on the right (passenger) side of the car, on the outside of the frame rail in the very front by the headlight. See the above drawing Dee Gee sent you.
It is held onto the mounting hole on the frame by a plastic push-in clip.
Just pull the clip out of the hole on the frame, release the plug for the wire (the plug has a release clip, pry up on the clip and the plug will release).
Then just put in the new one and you will be in business - it takes a few minutes of driving for the sensor to start reading the outside temp - you have to be moving.
The sensors are either resistance temperature detectors (RTD's) or Thermistors. The resistance of the sensor changes with the temperature.
If you have any corrosion in any of the associated connectors it will increase the resistance that the climate controls is reading.
The resistance across the two sensor wires could be almost infinity,
in that case your display would read a low temp.
Once the old sensor is removed, the HVAC defaults to 69* and will let the AC turn on.
The temp reading on my car is about 50% of actual ambient. I have a new sensor, but before I screw up.................how's the best way to get to this thing? I've looked from the top side and see nothing like it. I assume you go in from the bottom side of the bumper, right? Do I have to remove anything to get to it?
Work from the bottom. This is from the service manual.

Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Replacement
Removal Procedure
Disconnect the ambient air temperature sensor electrical connector.
Remove the push-in retainer securing the ambient air temperature sensor to the lower RH side of the radiator support.
Remove the ambient air temperature sensor from the radiator support.
Installation Procedure
Important
The ambient air temperature sensor must be orientated so that the sensor probe end is inboard and the electrical connector is outboard.
Install the ambient air temperature sensor to the lower radiator support.
Install the push-in retainer to secure the ambient air temperature sensor to the radiator support.
Connect the ambient air temperature sensor electrical connector.
