Default DTC Code C1296

I've read every post I can find on this subject and, so far, no one has answered the following basic questions;

Where is the brake fluid pressure sensor/switch located (pictures)?
Can it be replaced, by it's self or, is it a part of a larger assembly?
If it can be replaced separately, what does it cost?
How difficult is it to replace?
What is the part number?
If it's part of a larger assembly, can it be repaired by a 3rd party or, are we stuck with getting raped by GM?

I know there are members out there who know the answers. If so, there are a number of people who will be very grateful for you assistance - once again.

I think it's part of the brake combination valve which is the gizmo located in the lower center of the drawing

This is from '02 Service Manual, earlier models might be different!

On my 01, instead of the distribution block shown in the drawing, there is a switch with a wire attached that is screwed in to the lower part of the plastic master cylinder reservoir - between the two lobes.

Thanks for your input.

This one looks like a pressure switch and is screwed in to the EBCM. It could be the one. It should give me enough information to ask the auto parts guys to look.

There were some changes between 00 and 01 but, 01 and 02 should be the same.

Thanks again.

Yes the 01 manual shows it being #2 in byronhunter's drawing.

I don't think you would really have to drain the cooling fluid.

From the 01 manual:

Brake Fluid Pressure Sensor Replacement
Removal Procedure

Notice
To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.

Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
Disconnect and remove the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement - Inlet in Engine Cooling.

Loosen the two retaining nuts (1) and carefully reposition the EBCM to access the brake pressure sensor (2).
Disconnect the brake pressure sensor electrical connector.
Remove the brake pressure sensor from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure

Notice
To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.

Install the brake pressure sensor to the EBCM in the vehicle. Tighten
Tighten the pressure switch to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

Connect the brake pressure sensor electrical connector.

Position the EBCM back into the support bracket and tighten the retaining nuts (1). Tighten
Tighten the retaining nuts to 10 N·m (10 lb ft).

Install and connect the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement - Inlet in Engine Cooling.
Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
Perform the Diagnostic System Check - ABS to verify the repair.

I haven't had time to chase the parts yet but, I appreciate everyone's input. I think this will help solve the problem and, keep my other half from wondering when I'm going to fix her car.

Thanks

sent you a PM, but does anybody know where to get the sensor? The steelership told me that it was part of the ABS module and had to be bought together for $1500!

Did you ever find a pressure sensor and was this resolved?
