I recently purchased a 2001 Coupe with factory HUD installed. It was not working when I purchased vehicle and I have read several threads on the topic indicating a possible cause as broken tit in operating mechanism. Before remove dash panel to get to the HUD unit I would like feedback from forum members on my unit symptoms. The HUD is not visible anywhere in my windshield, at night I can see a slight blue blur, near the bottom of windshield, that can be controlled by the HUD brightness control. When I operate the up/down control it has no effect, but when not driving and viewing the unit from outside the vehicle I can see a small tip of a pin that moves in a slot on the left side, from drivers view, of the unit. Does all this indicate that the tit on the right side is broken loose?
Thanks guys, sounds like I do need to pull the unit and make the repair, your input appreciated, this is a great forum with a lot of experienced Corvette knowledge shared for the novice.
Just FYI to all the providers to this forum I made the repairs to my HUD this weekend using the great threads available on this forum. It was the broken tip on the mirror bracket. I used the directions of drilling the bracket and inserting a screw to replace the tip. Also my mirror bracket on the opposite side had the plastic bushing broken, which allowed too much play in that side of the mechanism. I found a plastic sheetrock anchor (the ones you drill a hole in sheetrock and drive in to fasten pictures and etc) this fit the mounting bracket perfectly. I cut the longer protruding end off and this made a perfect replacement bushing for the broken one. The "new" repaired HUD is working great. Thanks to all who supplied informatio here.
