I don't remember exactly, but that photo does look familiar. I misinterpreted the term caged. The bearings in the comp kit have outer races. What I do remember is that one side of the bearings have a tall shoulder on the outer race and one side is a bit lower (reason why they must be installed a certain way. The way they looked to me it was nearly impossible for the needles to fall out without serious rocker damage.

Eric:

I just pulled the arms out, and they look just like the ones you pictured. What year did the new arms get phased in? I can't, for the life of me, imagine how the rollers could fall out. Barring a massive failure of some kind, how would the needles end up in the oil pan? You wouldn't happen to have pics of the original design?

UPDATE!!

I sent a request for information to CHE Precision, regarding their bearing inserts for the LS series rocker arms. Here is their reply....

The bearing inserts work very well on the street or in a race application and we have seen no problems to date in either application. We do not sell the trunnions and bearing inserts individually, but R & R them here at our facility. The cost to redo a used set or rocker arms is $420.00 plus shipping. Normal turn around time is 3 to 5 work days. We can supply you with new rocker arms with our trunnion and bearings installed in them too. The cost for new rocker arms with our trunnions and bushing is $640.00.
