A piece of PVC with threaded end caps and threaded brass fittings would hold the pressure, your fun will be figuring out how to spin it fast enough to bring the sensor out of sleep mode.

I have no idea about the 2000 year tpms', but on the later ones, you won't have to spin it up to any speed. After it's trained to the car, wait about 1 1/2 hours and check the pressure.

All sensors '97-'04 go into sleep mode when stationary. While in sleep mode they will only transmit once per hour. Once rotating they transmit once per minute. So, to truly test for proper operation they must be spun up.

From the service manual:

Document ID# 657365
2004 Chevrolet Corvette
Tire Pressure Monitor Description and Operation

The Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) System warns the driver when a significant increase, or decrease of tire pressure occurs in any of the 4 tires and allows the driver to display the individual tire pressures and their locations on the Driver Information Center (DIC).

The system uses the powertrain control module (PCM), body control module (BCM), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), DIC, Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR), a radio frequency (RF) transmitting pressure sensor in each wheel/tire assembly, and the serial data circuit to perform the system functions.

When the vehicle is stationary the sensors internal roll switches are open, which puts the sensors into stationary mode. In this mode the sensors transmit once every 60 minutes. As vehicle speed increases, centrifugal force closes the sensors internal roll switches, which puts the sensors to go into drive mode. In this mode the sensors transmit once every 60 seconds. The RCDLR receives and translates the data contained in each sensors RF transmission into sensor presence, sensor mode, and tire pressure.

Mark, when I read the OP, I went downstairs thinking they might could be trigered ON with a magnet. First checked the pressure on DIC. All normal. Turned off ignition, let out air to 15 pounds in left front, tried the magnet, did NOT work. Knowing they should transmit about once every hour, I just let it set there with the 15 pounds. Came back in 1 1/2 hrs. turn on ignition, check pressure, exactly 15 pounds displayed for left front. If the early ones operate like mine, I would think that would be a pretty good test for what Steve wants to do.

They all operate the same. Yes, you can test them that way but you will not have tested the roll switches or the sensors and battery's ability to transmit at a much higher rate. I guess it's all a matter of how well you want to test.

the magnet engages the roll switch
