Default Active Handling.. comes on... randomly

Ok.. I commute in the vette everyday.. and always on the way home, in the evening.. never on the trip to work ... My Active handling indicator will just come on and engage for a second then trip off.

What I can understand is this.. why only in the evening.. nearly always in the same place along my route

Now.. I have recenltly replaced the front pads.... but if they were having problems, something sticking.. w/n they have problems in the morning as well?

*** EDIT ****
Thought Id add more information... all of the above happens at normal freeway speeds 65-70mph...

I happened today while moving at about 40 mph.. ad the good news waa I was on a street vs freeway.. But the road I was on paralleles the freeway and seperated by two miles... this is strange

Interesting problem. I wish i was an expert in Active Handling to give you an articulate answer. My first thought would be road conditions and that you are in fact slipping in that general part of your route. But it couldn't be that simple.

I fixed mine by cleaning all the ground connectors under the hood. Once cleaned then I coated all the contacts and ground connectors with dielectric grease. Problem solved.

You need to repair this IMMEDIATELY! It can cause an accident! Recommend that you run in the OFF mode until repairs can be made.

The issue revolves around erroneous signals or error outputs coming from one or more of the sensors that supply the EBTCM information.

The sensors that can cause this are:
Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS)
Lateral Accelerometer
Yaw Accelerometer
Wheel Speed Sensor
EBTCM is bad.

The most common cause of this issue is a bad SWPS. The EBTCM gets input telling it that the car is going XXX direction and the BAD SWAPS is telling it, Hey,,,the driver wants the car to go in the XYX direction.

So, the EBTCM applies the brakes to one or more of the wheels and the car reacts by pulling right or left of you feel pulsations in the braking system.

The easy way to figure this out is to get a GM TECH II and check all the sensors and drive the car and see which sensor is causing the issue.
The EBTCM in my 02 ZO6 was actually BAD and caused the issue. My car had the pulsations and it would also error out at exactly 42 MPH and shut down.

Could these symptoms be caused by A dragging brake pad or one thats stuck?

NO! When the active handling message is on,,,the pump is running and the solenoids in the EBTCM are pulsating to control braking to the correct wheel/s

If you had a dragging caliper, the ACTIVE Handling system wouldn't care "unless it was causing the car to pull to one side or the other during normal driving

If the car moves in a YAW direction and the steering wheel does not correspond to the movement, it will trigger an active handling event.

Thats why the SWPS is normally the cause of the problem. It gives false signals to the EBTCM

BitViper: Are you on the brakes when this happens? Or straight out of the blue?

The reason I ask is this: My active handling system began kicking in from time to time while braking in a dead straight line. It was really weird. It happend once on the highway and almost put me into the wall. I immediately took the car off the road, put it on stands, and started to go over it. Took more time to put it on stands than it did to find the problem...one of my lower front control arm cam bolts had loosened off! When the brakes were applied, that wheel would toe out enough to "steer" the car off course. I couldnt feel it but the computer sure did! This is obviously an extreme case, but the moral of the story is that these "computer" problems sometimes have the strangest sources!

I just started having this issue on my '04 Z last night. Driving along at 70MPH active handling lights up and I can feel front brakes kicking in and pulling the car left & right. I have also gotten active handling warming up at times in the past when everything was warm. No codes of any kind. I did have the presence of mind to turn active handling off after the 2nd time it happened.
