I used my jack handle (or a piece of pipe) over my breaker bar in order to get enough leverage. I also put on gloves and safety goggles because I've had too many trips to the ER to get my hands stitched up.

Careful some guys have had their car drive off the jack stands if the rear wheels are touching the ground and somethign isn't locking the crank/pulley/flywheel in place (at least on manual cars).

I wouldn't imagine anythign short of a super industrial aircraft carrier impact wrench would even budge the crank bolt, not to mention the compressor to match.

Just a few impact wench tips that might help; use a deep well socket and no extension. If an extension has to be used, keep it as short as possible.

One other impact that works well is the NitroCat. On the lower price range northern tools has a composite impact that does very well.

This might be why dealerships charge so much...they have the correct tools for the job.

A heavy duty impact wrench is a handy tool to have though if you decide to buy a heavier duty model. You might be able to rent one, but I doubt it.

Do you have a large enough volume/cfm compressor or are you using a small compressor?

just make sure it doesn't explode into one of your eyes

GM does make a Flywheel holding tool
, you could take the bolt off w/ a 1/2" breaker bar, tool is about $50, I got one

Anything that will give (like multiple or long extensions, crappy sockets, flywheel moving etc) will make the impact less effective.

Heat will make it more effective.

Now just think about the adventure you'll have to put it back on that tight.

Okay well if i change out the pulley today, imma put the rack back on. Is there a certain way to put it back on or do i just slap it back in place and put all the lines and bolts back on?? Also can some one send me a pic of how the tie rods are put on along with how i put the sensor back on the rack...I was not there when my friend took them off, and he lost his phone so i cant get a hold of him. Thank you everyone for all the help...without this form i would be spending alot of money and messing my car up.lol

Use a 3/4 impact gun and make sure you got a large tank compressor thats at 150 psi and heat the bolt head up with a good map torch beforehand. Even though it says high torque its still a wimpy 1/2 gun and many times that just dont cut.

Lots of good tips. One more is that often fasteners get corroded and/or bound up. Try tightening the crank pulley bolt and then loosening. That will often break it free. If using an impact just hit it in the clockwise direction for a brief moment. Then try to remove it. Putting a ton of torque on it and it not coming off may just break it and then it will be damn near impossible to get the bolt out.

Someone around you must have a hand help map or propane torch I might think. Any HD store has them for under 20 bucks.. Santa can bring you one maybe. If the bolt was ever replaced maybe a previous owner used red loctite on it which must be heated pretty hot to break the bond even with an impact gun.

I think you need to stop and just put the car back together before getting help

your 800# is old and tired, the vanes are prolly worn out, I have provided information here that I HAVE USED in the past numerous times, a breaker bar and the GM FW holding tool will get the job done if you don't have the float for an impact with a set of...
