How difficult is it to bleed my brake system. I figure it isn't a bad idea to replaced the fluid in my 99FRC, but the real reason is I want to remove my calipers to clean and paint them. I've bleed non ABS vehicles before by pumping the pedal until it was hard, holding pressure on it and cracking the bleeder screw. Will this method work on my car? Will it do any damage if I were to leave the calipers off the lines for an extended period of time? If this could potentially empty the ABS system of run into problems that I would need a dealership to fix for me, I'm not interested. What is the sequence to bleed the 99's. Thanks.

You can successfully clean and paint the calipers without disconnecting the brake lines......with great results.

Before I heard about the whole ABS Bleed concern, I removed all 4 calipers drained and cleaned the M/C BUT Left it dry as my motul was not here yet. I left the calipers off and lines dripping for 2 days.

Reinstalled the calipers added fluid and bled the system as normal. As "normal" I mean no particular order or thought of such.

The first bleed is all I needed and no soft pedel to it.

Just don't let the master cylinder reservoir go dry and you will be OK. When you re-install the calipers change the brake lines as well (potential 10 year old lines) and then bleed in this sequence RR, LR, LF, RF. The foot method still works.

I agree wit hJapee. You just need to make sure that you DO NOT allow air to enter the fluid passages in the BPMV. If hat doesnt happen, bleeding he calipes isntan issue.

if you do get air into the BPMV,,,,just actuating the ACTIVE HANDLING SYS a coupel of times will purge the AIR ou of the EBTCM/BPMV.
