Default DIC going wack

Last friday night I was driving home from work and I noticed the drivers window would not go up. Minutes later every posssible warning and check everything from reduce engine power, TCS, to tire monitorg system, low fuel, radio missing, everything. Just about every message in the DIC. Turned car off and my passager window went down. I had been trying to check passager window operation right before everything else went wack.

Lots and most every module had communication errors, as well as others. From reading here on the forum, I'm thinking (and hoping) that I may have some grouding issues. Friday night was about the coldest night so far this year, but the car was nice and warm when all this happened.

Today I reset things, went for a few drives and everything came back againin the first two outings. I can tell it's comming when the DS window starts to Fup. I reset several times today and then the last drive I went on, none of the serious messages/errors came back. The last drive was the longest and about what it takes to go to work and back. I did get the window (DS) to work by pushing on the cable group going to the door. I don't know in doing this did it keep the rest of the errors away.

If anyone else has had these problems and found solutions such as cleaning connectors, which ones seem to do the trick? any suggestions on where to start? I have my ground location map out today and my contct cleaner. Thanks

You need to inspect the wiring in the accordian tube.

Thanks, Yeah, I will get after those wires next possible chance. Unfortunitly work will intrude for the next few days. Do you think all can be cause by the DS door wiring? Or do you think grounds might be the more common cause?

No, as probably stated, there's a wire inside of the accordian tube that will short to ground causing all of your issues. Common problem on many C-5's

You have a serial data buss issue. Its either a problem in the accordion tube OR your BCM got wet due to a HVAC condensate leak issue caused by a clogged HVAC Drain.

See if the passengers foot well carpet underlayment (padding under the carpet) is wet/damp.

If the BCM gets wet....thats what can happen!

So,,now you have TWO things to check

Thanks again everyone for your responses. I drove to work today and no DIC wacky (could not resist). This is good thing depending on your point of view. I was playing with the wiring tube going to the DS door yesterday and from that time now I've made two trips to test the vette gremlins. So far so good. We have rain and freezing rain coming in the next few days so I'll keep it in the garage until I can get to the door wiring again.

Does anyone know if the mating connectors (at the door) are still available from GM or any other supplier? It would seem the best thing to do would be heat shrink insulation around the bare wiring. The only way to do this is to remove the wire/s from the connector, slide the heat shrink over and then slide the wire/s back into the connector again. The risk is damaging the connector/pins in doing this.

Anyway thanks again for the help everyone. If I get real ambitious I'll take pictures of what I find and post.

Bill has a great picture of the problem wire. Look in the electrical sticky for it.

No, they are not to me. I did check this out and I thank you for posting the quick link to the problem/solution.

Having never used a "liquid insulator" product/method before, and being a old fart electronic tech, it goes against my teachings. But being an old fart, I will give it a try, rather than do the heat shrink. Sitting on cold concrete floors ain't spose' to be good for old farts either. I'll warm-up my doughnut

Yep, I understand. Since you have the expertise, extracting the contact from the connector, and using heat shrink over any chaffed wiring, may be a better option for you. Most guys do not have the tools, patience, or expertise to to that, which is why I'm sure Bill made the suggestion of liquid electrical tape. It does work well though......
