Rear Spindle Question
I just put new tires on my '04. When the tire shop took off my right rear wheel, the large nut that goes on the spindle just fell out of the hub. THe shop guy put it back on, using some lock tight and an impact wrench. My question is, is there a lock nut that is supposed to go behind the larger one? I saw no place for cotter pin or anything that would keep it from backing off again if it got loose.

There is no lock nut or cotter pin. I would be concerned with the way he fixed the problem though. The Service Manual says to "Tighten the drive axle spindle nut to 160 N·m (118 lb ft)". No way to know whether he overtightened the nut or didn't tighten it enough. The locktite may make it hard to do but I would remove the nut and re-install it using a torque wrench.

Thanks for the information Bill, I will have that checked.
Think they are. And when you go to the dealer to buy a new one, it takes a different socket...It went up from 33mm to 34mm. Had to buy a new socket as well as the nut.
