Air intake cleaning suggestions???
Planning on a simple "tune up" of my '99 and I'm going to do the usual plugs & wires, oil change, diff oil change, bleed/flush the brake fliud and clutch fluid, clean my K&N filter- all DIY. Maybe even have the coolant flushed by a local garage.
I would like to clean the air intake/ throttle body. Any suggestions? I've heard about the sea foam? product. Is there just a simple spray that I can spray into the intake body that would clean any build up off? Any chances of ruining a sensor if I do it? Is this really necessary?
Thoughts?
Anything else that I should look into?
Also what would be the easiest and safest way to get the car up either on jack stands or just up a bit more so I can service the transmission oil ( 6 speed) without a lift?
I've never had to manually clean the TB, but then again, I use a glass-body oil/air separator (catch can), which filters out oil before it has a chance to coat the intake. I also throw a large bottle of Techron concentrate in the tank every 6 months.
Regarding raising the car: If your C5 is not lowered, then you can drive it up on Rhino Ramps (place a welcome mat under each to prevent it from sliding.) and then jack up the back with a hydraulic floor jack that lifts up to 19 inches. Place wood or plastic inbetween the cradle and the aluminum crossmember. Once the rear is at least as high as the front, strategically lace jack stands (again, use a piece of wood or plastic on top) underneath.

Thanks Dave,
I was thinking of picking up a bottle of Techron to add to my next tank of gas just to "clean" things up inside.
My C5 is at stock ride height so I'll give the ramps a try. Just need some additional room under there to service the trans. I can/have done the diff with the car just sitting on the ground but it looks like I'll need a little more space to get to the trans. Good suggestion about the mats. I remember years ago trying to get a car up on the ramps and having one slide out from under the tire when I was 1/2 way up!
It IS alot easier with the car on jack stands. I usually raise the rear so that it's higher than the front when I change the oil, since the drain plug is in the front of the pan. The other thing I forgot to mention is the use of a hand pump when changing the manual tranny fluid. Since I bought the diff and tranny fluids from Amsoil, I also bought one of their pumps.
He mentioned the air intake/throttle body, not the MAF. CRC makes an MAF cleaner, but generally, if your engine is running well, there is no need to clean the MAF.

I do the same thing when I change the oil in my C5. I usally pull the plug, jack up the rear slightly and let it drain for a while. I do have a small hand transfer pump that I use for the diff oil change in my C2. This comes in handy since there is not much room up in there.
Thanks again for the tips.
